A Little Blog Lesson for Grandma and Others

Grandma wrote in the comments thread of this post on my blog:

"how do others change the way to let others post comments as 'other' like your blog does. Give them a hint. I would like not to be Mom and Dad for my grandkids."

My comment settings (go to settings, comments on the dashboard) are set to:

Who can comment?: Anyone (This allows Grandma Clark to sign the post as grandma even though she is registered as "Mom and Dad." It also would allow some of the brothers and sisters to comment on Jason and Angela's blog, although just setting it to registered members would also allow for that.)

Show word verification for comments?: Yes (This puts the "type in the word above that's written in squiggly lines" which seems to be enough to keep the rift raft from posting on my blog. At a minimum, everyone should have this security measure on their blog)

Comment Notification Address: My email address at work which I check regularly (This automatically sends all comments to my email address at work so if somehow junk gets through I can delete it immediately if its during the work week and on Monday AM or sooner if its the weekend. For those of you who do not work in front of a computer all day, you or your spouse's most checked email address would do just fine.)

Enable Comment Moderation: No (for now) (If I chose Yes, none of the comments would post before I signed off on them. Its a little more labor intensive, but it allows for those who don't want a blogger/blogspot username to still comment (maybe college friends for me) while still having complete control over the comments. If I were still struggling to keep the rift raft away with my word verification setting, I might set this to Yes).

You surely can do whatever you like on your own blog. This is just what I currently do to keep mine relatively clean and under control.
